i'm a songwriter, producer and digital creator. i write and produce music from my bedroom as an outlet for me to express myself and my creativity while i navigate my experiences, whether they be tumultuous relationships, disability, or matters of expression and identity. guided by intuition and feeling, i let this creative expression influence my musical approach. this helps keep me create something that is authentic to me as a person and artist, unbound by musical conventions.
music functions as way for listeners to feel heard, express themselves through their ability to relate to the music, and also as a way to unwind or escape. it is through this relatability where i find connection and community. these aspects are important to me, so as much as it is something i do for myself, it is equally something i do in consideration for others and how sharing my heart can positively impact them.
nopey snoot is a music project created by me, harry. i've been writing, producing and releasing as an independent artist for almost five years. the music section showcases the efforts created through the project.
the name, nopey snoot, comes from my first dungeons & dragons character. i initially released music under my real name, but changed it because it was important for me to have a name i still connected with, but one i can also create a degree of separation with between my creative identity, and my real life vulnerable self. this separation enabled me to better balance between creative expression, business practice and mental health, which i believe are integral to navigating
it also resonated with me as it still showed my personality, and reminded me to continue to have fun with music. in the game of d&d, nopey snoot is a bard, a tale teller, and a jack of all trades. this idea helped me think about my place as a creative in the digital age
i studied at the Queensland Academies Creative Industries (QACI) campus focusing on HL music in the IB diploma programme.
afterwards, i commenced study at Queensland University of Technology and worked part-time as a teacher aide and music technology specialist at QACI, providing support in the classroom and recording studios.
later, i commenced study at the Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University (QCGU). in my first year, i received an award for academic excellence. i continue to learn new skills, make new connections and be a better creative in and out of study.
i have a variety of skills that i have gained through commitment to study and also from exploring my own passions with many different types of projects. i became proficient in several different software applications, hardware components, musical envrionments, and collaborated with a diverse group of musicians and creatives.
as apart of being a creative in the digital age, not only have i gained the skills to produce the songs i write, but also learned how to release and distribute my own music, how to network with other creatives and market myself, and produce content for social media.
as a digital creator, i have learned to adopt a variety of skills and immerse myself in several creative practices to allow me to be flexible, capable and informed. through this, i can communicate more effectively, problem solve quicker, and identify when i am out of my depth, and require an expert's opinion. in a digital age within an ever-evolving industry, i have found the breadth of knowledge i have across several disciplines vital to my career, whether it is in music (production, distribution, marketing), visual mediums (content creation, design, video editing) or others (business, communication, education..)
materialising the jack of all trades idea is my experience in several applications. logic pro x has been the primary digital tool for enabling me to create music. it was also the application i taught and designed a comprehensive guide for as a teacher aide, which empowered students to make their musical ideas come to life as well. though, i possess skills in several applications, from other DAWs, such as pro tools and ableton, to musical and visual coding software in pure data and touch designer.
i also have proficiency in other tools outside of music, with the adobe suite enabling me to dabble in graphic design, photo editing, video creation, and audio manipulation. it is through these skills in a variety of digital applications that enables me to be versatile and creative. by learning these tools, i've been able to fill so many different roles in a variety of different contexts. though i may not be an expert in all of them, it allows me to communicate and connect with those that are experts.
