written in the peak of australian summer where it rained (almost) every day while going through a difficult breakup. the metaphor of rain and petrichor to detail the hurt that follows losing someone you love. the lyrics also portray rain as a messenger of that since-gone love. the song has a melancholic aesthetic, featuring folky guitars and floating melodious piano, which are underscored by found-sound recordings of rain.

this project was also an online and international collaboration with edinburgh-based artist rinfraz, who wrote the piano part, provided vocal harmony, and was consulted on the composition and production of the song. this process taught me valuable skills about communicating online, and managing an extremely different time zone, but it was an experience that i think was extremely successful.

this next release features two vulnerable songs that function as different sides of the same coin, both describing destructive cycles. the first, "terrible", is an energetic rock song, and the other, "cold water and peppermint" – a bittersweet folk tune. they were written to help me deal with the vulnerable topics of heartbreak and disability. i hope that by writing these songs in this way, listeners can reflect on their own struggles and find some sort of solace. with the release of these two songs, i opened conversations with friends, family and others about love, loss and the struggles of illness.

"two short stories"

"terrible"

i suffer from chronic illness, and i wrote the lyrics in only a few minutes when i realised the cycle i put myself through. the cycle of struggling, refusing to ask for help, expending myself to check in with others, and then emptying my problems upon them when they check back in with me. it serves as a reminder for myself to manage those struggles better, and opened up discussions to help me do so.

"cold water and peppermint"

i made this song while in a relationship where no matter what i or my partner did to fix the struggles we had, we ended up right back where we started. this cyclical nature of the relationship hurt, but quite unlike anything else i had felt, and when boarding a flight with nothing but mints and water, it struck me as the one sensation that could describe the hurt.
