petrichor

i began writing this song in january 2024 in the rainy, australian summer while i was going through a pretty difficult part of my life. amongst many things, it was a particularly painful breakup that encouraged me to write this song, as it felt like one of the few daily comforts i had was the recurring rain, and the smell (the petrichor) that accompanied it.

the song uses the rain to detail the hurt that follows losing someone you love, and as an unrequited reminder of the positive and negative times shared together. the song has a melancholic aesthetic, featuring folky guitars and floating melodious piano, which are underscored by found-sound recordings of rain. inspired by the likes of adrianne lenker and fog lake.
